Nairobi passed an Air Quality Bill in 2022, then implementation stalled, until the people it affected were brought in. Using methods from our Climate Democracy Accelerator, Civic Voices brought matatu owners, officials and residents together. Several routes now run solar-powered and electric buses.

That's what our programs are built for. Since 2020, People Powered and our partners have trained over 1,532 democracy advocates and government reformers, and supported 178 participatory government programs. These are just some of the most recent examples:

Now we're opening applications for three programs

Each participant is paired with a mentor from People Powered's membership, experts who run participatory programs in more than 50 countries. Here’s what’s unique about each program:

Climate Democracy Accelerator (CDA) 

Six months of mentorship, training and peer learning, up to $25,000 in funding: a $10,000 grant for every participant, plus $15,000 more for the top six action plans.

Who can apply: government and civil society partnerships worldwide working on renewable energy or regenerative agriculture. Priority for Brazil, India, Indonesia and Mexico.


Democratic Innovations Accelerator (DIA)

Six months of mentorship, training and peer learning, plus an all-expenses-paid trip to an in-person workshop.

Who can apply: governments and civil society organizations in EU and Horizon Europe countries working on strengthening youth participation.


Rising Stars Mentorship

Up to five one-to-one sessions with an experienced practitioner from our global network.

Who can apply: anyone developing a participatory program in EU and Horizon Europe countries. We have also reserved exclusive spots for People Powered members worldwide.

Inclusive participatory processes often end when the project does. Hear how practitioners and governments are mainstreaming and making them last, from:
