Voice in the Classroom – Student Workshop

A 40-minute workshop to reflect on and improve student voice in classroom learning and decision-making.

This workshop guide helps schools promote student voice at the classroom level. Developed by the Our Voices – Our Schools initiative in Ireland, it provides a 40-minute session plan for teachers to reflect with students on how their voices are heard and acted upon in class. Based on an audit tool originally created by Roger Holdsworth (Australia), the session invites students to identify what matters most to them, assess current practices, and collaborate on suggestions for improvement. The final step includes a class vote on priorities, ensuring participatory follow-up. It supports inclusive, respectful, and action-oriented dialogue, making it a practical tool for improving student engagement and democratic classroom practices.
