Student workshops: Having a voice in school decision-making

Workshops to help students explore and improve their role in school and classroom decision-making.

These workshop guides is designed to help schools strengthen student participation in decision-making. Developed by the Our Voices – Our Schools initiative in Ireland, they aims to build students’ understanding of why their voice matters, using interactive activities aligned with the Lundy model (space, voice, audience, influence). The two workshops lasts two hours and 40 minutes, respectively, and include exercises such as mapping school spaces of participation, exploring who listens and how influence is felt, and identifying actions for improvement. Students engage in individual reflection and group dialogue, contributing input to inform broader school policies. The guides are a practical, replicable tool for promoting rights-based participation across school settings.
