Participatory budget for schools in Brno

A youth-engagement initiative by the Brno City Municipality in the Czech Republic which enables primary school pupils to have a direct role in budgeting decisions about their school environment.

Launched in 2020, the program invites primary schools (on a voluntary basis) to participate in a structured participatory budgeting process using an online platform. Pupils propose and vote on projects concerning their school’s surroundings, with selected ideas funded and implemented. The scheme aims to build democratic habits in children at an early stage, increase youth-participation rates in broader civic processes, and strengthen the link between school administration and student voice.
