Participation guide for adolescents
/Practical guide introducing adolescents to their right to participate in family, school, community and public life.
This guide is an educational tool aimed at raising awareness and empowering adolescents regarding their right to participation in different areas of life. Developed by INE, SIPINNA, and UNICEF Mexico, it provides accessible explanations of what participation means, the associated rights (to express opinions, be heard, decide, and access information), and how these can be exercised within family, school, community, media, health, and safety contexts. The guide uses youth-friendly language and practical activities such as interviews, community mapping, school assemblies, and communication exercises to foster critical thinking, empathy, and responsible decision-making. It also highlights participation as a cornerstone of citizenship and democracy, stressing the importance of recognizing adolescents as capable actors in influencing policies, programs, and decisions that affect them.
