Global youth participation index (GYPI)

Global index measuring youth civic and political participation—aid for designing youth engagement policies.

The Global Youth Participation Index (GYPI) is a pioneering, data-driven tool tracking youth civic and political participation across 141 countries. Led by the European Partnership for Democracy (EPD) and developed in collaboration with CEDAR at the University of Birmingham, GYPI measures engagement across four key dimensions: socio-economic conditions, civic space, political affairs, and elections. Built on 41 variables, it offers comparative country scores, regional insights, and evidence-based recommendations. Young leaders from the GYPI Youth Panel ensure relevance and inclusiveness. The index is designed to highlight systemic barriers, elevate global youth voices, and serve as a vital resource for researchers, NGOs, policymakers, and youth advocates aiming to design effective youth engagement strategies and hold institutions accountable.
