Building a public culture of economics

A report that recommends methods to build public trust in economic and public institutions in the UK by incorporating deliberative processes into economic policymaking.

The report concludes that there are three potential outcomes from high quality public engagement: efficacy of policymaking, legitimacy, and agency. The recommendations include establishing regional Citizens' Reference Panels for major economic decisions, supporting citizens and civil society to directly scrutinize economic policy, and establishing an expert resource on participatory economics. The report is the final product of the RSA's Citizens' Economic Council, a two-year program.
