Social design field guide

This field guide provides guidance about participatory planning and design based on the experience of the Firm Foundation project in Banjarmasin, Indonesia.

The guide explains the backstory of how the project team adapted a range of participatory design tools to improve public space in a riverfront informal settlement. It is meant for urban designers who want to work with non-governmental organizations - and non-governmental organizations who want to work with urban designers.

The guide walks through tools used during design workshops, the lessons the team took away from the process, and the design outcome. The guide also includes three case studies of other participatory projects in Indonesia.
