Salt Spring Island Climate Action Plan 2020

A report on the development of the climate action plan of Salt Spring Island by citizens, experts and elected officials.

Salt Spring Island is a community of about 11,000 people. In order to update their 2011 Climate Action Plan, a group of citizen volunteers, expert advisors, and elected officials worked with non-profit Transition Salt Spring to identify mitigation and adaptation strategies. The public engagement strategy was developed by the Steering Committee and non-profits eDemocracy Solutions and Elephant in the Room Communications. They are also the first community to take part in the Carbon Budget pilot project intended to combine the ETHELO decision-making platform with micro-targeted public engagement strategies.
