Bringing public judgement to democracy

This is a short guide for politicians and public officials who want to improve public decision-making processes and democratic institutions by adding public judgement.

The guide provides reasons and examples for how to do this by creating the structures and conditions that allow for representative public deliberation to become an integral part of how certain types of public decisions are taken. It covers eight models of how this has been done across OECD Member countries.

The guide builds on the findings of chapter 6 of the 2020 OECD report Innovative Citizen Participation and New Democratic Institutions: Catching the Deliberative Wave.
