Request for proposals: calling all video producers

People Powered seeks a professional/company to help us plan and produce a video that communicates in a compelling, entertaining fashion the mission, activities and impact of our international nonprofit organization. The footage for the ~3-minute video would primarily be shot at a convening of our members in Mexico City May 6-11 and the production should be complete by the end of June. This project may lead to additional contract opportunities.

About People Powered

People Powered is a nonprofit organization based in the United States that serves as a global hub for participatory democracy. Our mission is to expand people’s power to make government decisions by supporting organizations and governments that are building participatory democracy around the world. We launched in July 2020 and have quickly grown to a staff of eleven.

Our more than 70 member organizations are working to build participatory democracies in which community members are active participants in making the policy decisions that affect their lives. Common strategies include participatory budgeting, participatory policy-making, participatory planning and citizens’ assemblies. We support this work by sharing and developing resources, providing training and mentorship, and building a global community of practice. We focus on supporting organizations and advocates with the greatest needs, especially in Africa, Asia, Eastern Europe and Latin America.

Our challenge

People Powered does not actually do the work on the ground to advocate, implement and expand participatory democracy practices. Rather, we support these frontline organizations and practitioners in countries around the world, via funding, training, education, resource development, etc. This video must bring alive for viewers both the promise and progress of participatory democracy, and the vital role People Powered and its network play in making that a reality.

Our desired audiences

This video should be compelling and relevant to the following primary and secondary audiences:

  • Primary: Potential funders and collaborators.

  • Secondary: Civil society organizations and government officials that are potential members/beneficiaries.

Scope of work

  1. Work with selected members of the People Powered staff to further refine the goals of the video and draft an outline/storyboard, based on the opportunities offered by the Mexico City convening.

  2. Work with the community building/communications directors to identify who should be interviewed at the convening, the desired environment for the interviews and the b-roll footage to be obtained.

  3. Scout locations on site for the various interviews/b-roll footage in advance of the convening.

  4. Shoot on site at the convening.

  5. Edit/produce the video for People Powered review, incorporating other images as needed

  6. Make changes as necessary and deliver the final product by the end of June.

Budget

We have allocated a budget of $10,000 USD for the video production.
