September 15 Webinar Offers Tips on Tackling Climate Change Collectively

Wildfires, droughts, flash floods and heatwaves: As documented in a new atlas from the World Meteorological Organization, the number of weather-related disasters is escalating around the world.

We are responsible for this climate crisis. According to a new report from the UN's Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), “human activity is changing the climate in unprecedented and sometimes irreversible ways.”

But there is also reason to be optimistic: Local governments and civil society partners are bringing residents together to debate solutions and implement innovative ways to prevent or mitigate the impact of climate change. A webinar (next week) and our collection of climate-related resources can help you get started.

Learn firsthand from local innovators

“Local Democracy Talks – Participatory Climate Action” will feature five local initiatives that engage citizens to address to climate change:

  • Warsaw, Poland: Shipyard Foundation and The Field of Dialogue Foundation

  • Montreal, Canada: Montreal Urban Ecology Centre.

  • Trelleborg, Sweden: Mayor Mikael Rubin

  • Semarang, Indonesia: Kota Kita

This event is organized by the Swedish International Centre for Local Democracy in collaboration with People Powered, the International Observatory on Participatory Democracy (IOPD), Shipyard Foundation, Field of Dialogue Foundation and Montreal Urban Ecology Center.
